Adam SpiegelMARK DORNFORD-MAY - DIRECTOR
Mark Dornford-May was Founder Director of the Playwright's Company, based at Bristol Old Vic, and Associate Director of the Old Vic, Stoke-on-Trent. Also directed at the Sheffield Crucible, the Oxford Playhouse, The Gate Theatre Notting Hill and the RSC. He has worked on several large-scale theatre pieces in Portugal, France, Belgium and South Africa. He has been very involved with actor training at Central School of Drama. Now Artistic Director of Wilton's Music Hall and the South African Academy of Performing Arts.
CHARLES HAZLEWOOD - MUSIC DIRECTOR
Previously for Broomhill Opera and Wilton's Music Hall: The Turn of the Screw, The Silverlake, The Beggar's Opera, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Il Trittico, Dido and Aeneas, Eight Songs for a Mad King, and world premieres by Jane Mielniczek, Andrew Toovey and Martyn Harry.
Education: Oxford University. Won first prize in EBU Conducting competition, Lisbon, 1995.
Artistic Director with Mark Dornford-May of Broomhill Opera and Wilton's Music Hall, and the South African Academy of Performing Arts. Works with leading UK orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestras, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London Mozart Players and Northern Sinfonia. Work in South Africa includes: Carmen, West Side Story, Mysteries, The Beggar's Opera. Founder/Music Director of the chamber orchestra Eos. Future work includes European tour with English Chamber Orchestra and debut at Carnegie Hall with the orchestra of St Luke's. Recordings include: ECO discs for EMI and crossover projects with Pulp and Spiritualised.
TV work includes: Music Director of Jonathan Miller's Opera Works (BBC2) and The Real Don Giovanni (Channel 4). Films with Stockhausen, Maxwell Davies and John Adams (BBC).
JOEL MTHETHWA - CHOREOGRAPHER
Joel was choreographer for Izidurno in 1999 and Ipi Ntombi in 1998, at the Civic Theatre, Gauteng. He has worked extensively as actor, dancer and choreographer in film, television and on stage - and also at Ringling Brothers Circus, New York. Together with Terry John Bates, he choreographed the South African productions of The Mysteries, Carmen, The Silverlake and West Side Story. He choreographed YIIMIMANGALISO The Mysteries and Carmen at Wilton's Music Hall. He has also choreographed the same company's new version of The Beggar's Opera.
MANNIE MANIM - LIGHTING DESIGN
Mannie Manim is involved in all aspects of theatre from administration to technical. This year marks his 45th year in the theatre. He has designed lighting for theatre, opera, music, ballet and dance for the last three decades. He has worked extensively throughout the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and Japan. Most recently, he has designed the lighting for Mbongeni Ngema's The Zulu at the Market Theatre, Athol Fugard's The Island, starring John Kani and Winston Ntshona at the Bouffes du Nord in Paris, the Lyttelton in the National Theatre, in Washington at the Kennedy Center, at the Old Vic in London and in Toronto, Ronald Harwood's The Guest and Goodbye Kiss at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Bizet's Carmen and YIIMIMANGALISO The Mysteries for Wilton's Music Hall in London (he has also lit the same company's new version of The Beggar's Opera), and Athol Fugard's Sorrows and Rejoicing at the Baxter Theatre, Cape Town, which he will light at the Tricycle Theatre in March of this year. In 1985 he received the first Vita Award for the Most Enterprising Producer. Since the inception of the Vitas, he has received the Best Original Lighting Award ten times. In 1990 he was made Chevalier des Artes et des Lettres by the French government and in 1996 he was awarded a gold medal for Theatre Development by the South African Academy of Arts and Science. Manim is co-founder of the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, serves on its Board of Governors, is Chairman of the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, and is a member of the State Theatre Board.
ADAM SPIEGEL - PRODUCER
Adam's West End credits include Fame - The Musical, which has been successful in the West End since 1995, Boyband, Birdy and Lady Salsa.
Adam produced a UK tour of Fame - The Musical two years ago, and opened a new UK tour of the show in January 2002. He has co-produced arena productions of Fame, and also a large-scale North American tour of Fame, which began in Toronto in 1998. Adam is currently producing the world's first arena production of Saturday Night Fever, and the 2002 UK tour of Five Guys Named Moe.
Adam has acted as an Arts consultant for the Sunday Times and the Tate Gallery, and is also a board member for London Arts.
FLORA SMITH - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Wilton's Music Hall
Together with Mark Dornford-May and Charles Hazlewood, Flora Smith moved the company to Wilton's Music Hall in 1999 and manages all aspects of the company's work from plans for restoration to the international touring. She is also a trustee of Tara Arts; Britain's oldest established Asian theatre company, as well as the South African Academy of Performing Arts.
NICHOLAS BOLES - ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
This is Nicholas' first theatrical venture. He has run a number of small businesses including an internet retailer, and represents the West End on Westminster Council. His only qualification as associate producer is his unbridled enthusiasm for the show.
